This rune bears no resemblance at all to Bjarkan. It’s more like the reverse of Áss. So my interpretation has been written to reflect that.
In stead of communication, I picked hearing, listening for this one. It’s an important thing to remember to do in many situations, and I feel this isn’t properly represented in the interpretations. It also solves my problem of being behind on my second H post for The Pagan Blog Project. more »
In the futhark used on the Rök stone, the Týr rune has lost one of its arms, and looks more like a reversed Laugr. In some ways quite fitting, since Týr lost his hand to Fenrir.
Since it no longer looks the same, I’ve had to adapt the interpretation. I’ve chosen to include a little bit of Laugr, since they resemble eachother.

The ‘S’ rune on the Rök Stone no longer looks anything like Sól. It still has the sound value, so I had to let it keep some of the aspects. It has some of Ís in it as well, so I brought Ice into the mix.
While fire stands for light, heat, and passion. Ice stands for stagnation, inhibitions, and a lack of feelings.

But when these two powerful forces collide, things happen. Just look at where the lava meets the ice or the ocean. Islands have been created this way.
This combination could mean passion, love, creativity, sudden enlightenment, dramatic change, creation. But it could also mean chaos, cataclysmic events or destruction.
As a Merkstave interpretation, I would suggest for you to look at if someone is quenching your fire, your passion, your creativity. Is someone causing you to stop, to freeze?

Since the Ice rune has kept its apperance from the Elder Futhark, I’ve allowed it to keep its interpretation. I have however elaborated a bit on it.
The easiest part of the interpretation, is things being frozen, standing still, stagnation. But there’s also waiting, blockages, challenges and frustrations. Being cold, inhibited, frigid, a lack of emotions, a lack of passion. The rune points to some kind of difficulty ahead.
As this rune is very similar to the one in the Elder Futhark, I’ve let it keep most of my original interpretation. It does however have a different crossbar, and I thought long and hard about what to do about that, in regards to my interpretation. I’ve decided to remove part of the original interpretation, add a little bit to the new one. To emulate removing the crossbar and adding a shorter one at a slightly different angle.

If you look at the shape of this rune, it could be interpreted as a falling snow ball, a falling rock, or something similar. Since the shape is quite different from the shape it has in the Elder Futhark, I’ve chosen to completely rewrite the interpretation. Some aspects are still the same though.
I still see Hagl as hail, because of the name, if nothing else. The hail storm, the snow storm, the thunder storm, the flood, the landslide, the avalanche. A rapidly moving change, a period of turbulence which leads to major changes, good or bad. Some might describe it as a necessary evil, but I wouldn’t call it evil, just turbulent, violent, sudden and drastic. more »
Because it has changed quite a bit from the Elder Futhark version, I chose to change my interpretation to the same degree. I chose to go by the interpretations from the rune poems, in stead of modern tradition.
