I’ve though long and hard about continuing to use Joomla for my Heksebua site, and I’ve finally decided against it. Although the move will be a huge job, it won’t he as much work as staying with Joomla.
- The menu is too hard to get right. It’s proven impossible to find a plugin that handles a menu as large as mine, and with as many levels.
- Updating and upgrading plugins are too much work, since you have to do them one by one. In WordPress you can get to all upgrades at the same time.
- Translating via Joomfish to three languages is an enormous job every time you change the slightest thing.
- Upgrading to 1.7 will be a huge job
I’ve had this website on HTML-pages, PHP-pages, PmWiki and now Joomla. I’m tempted to use WordPress or PmWiki. What else would be a good idea to use? And don’t say Drupal
That’s even more work.
It has to:
- be user friendly
- support me entering my own PHP code (so I can use content from my databases)
- be easy to use
- be easy to upgrade
- be able to import content from Joomla (even if it’s through another cms)
- have a lot of ways to customise the site (plugins and themes)
- support translation of the content
- be free of charge
I know I have a number of techy, web-savy and geeky friends and acquaintances, so I hope one of them has the perfect answer
